Student Fine Arts Fund Call for ProposalsThe Arts Council exists to foster the arts at The University of Chicago. As one means to encourage the expansion of arts activities and enrichment of the University's cultural life, the Council will provide grants to University of Chicago student organizations and individual students through the Student Fine Arts Fund. Established with the support of the Class of 2001 Senior Class Gift, the Student Fine Arts Fund supports student-initiated projects that would not typically receive support from another organization. Priority will be given to projects that encourage more students to explore opportunities within the arts, bring together two or more disciplines, or create opportunities for collaboration. We are looking for original ideas for the creation and presentation of all sorts of visual and performing arts, for proposals that bring the arts to more of the campus community, for programs that leverage partnerships among student groups, academic departments, and/or cultural organizations. The Student Fine Arts Fund will assist in the implementation of imaginative projects with grants up to $1,500. (Students seeking support for larger projects should inquire about the UChicagoArts Fund.) The Student Fine Arts Fund does not generally support work that is directly related to a class or academic project such as dissertation or MA thesis. The Student Fine Arts Fund will not generally fund food for receptions unless it is an innate part of the artistic experience. Sponsors supported by the Student Fine Arts Fund are required to submit a report evaluating the project. Prior to this evaluation, sponsors should develop a plan for project feedback, whether through informal discussion, formal critical response sessions, or some other means. Applications will be reviewed periodically. Upcoming deadlines:
Proposals will be reviewed by the Student Fine Arts Fund Committee, which includes student representatives and members of the Arts Council. How to Submit a Proposal Applicants must submit eight copies of the application form; a project budget; and a narrative (no longer than 2 pages) describing the project, what it will do to enhance the "life of the arts" at Chicago, and the key individuals involved with the project. None of the application materials will be returned. Applications must be received in RC 301 by 5pm on the dates listed above. Applicants will be contacted by a member of the committee when the proposal is considered. Proposals will be accepted from University affiliated students or organizations only. If you have questions about the application, email coleman@uchicago.edu. Also see the UChicagoArts Call for Proposals Updated: October 10, 2007 |
